Game changer from farm to (every) fork

Late June, the Senate passed its farm bill with overwhelming bi-partisan support. The Senate bill protects crucial safety nets for low-income consumers, farmers, and rural communities while investing in promising new ideas. It includes support for local, regional, and urban food and farm systems alongside investments in beginning and veteran farmer programs. More broadly, it shows what’s possible when members of Congress work together to find common ground solutions that benefit us all.

We at Fair Food Network are particularly excited about its expansion of the Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive program, which supports healthy food incentives like Double Up Food Bucks.

See below for our statement on the Senate farm bill, and watch our NEW VIDEO to see how SNAP plus incentives are a game changer for our food system—from farm to (every) fork.

The Senate farm bill includes wins for American farmers and families including more funding for successful SNAP incentive programs like Double Up Food Bucks. Such programs, many supported by USDA’s Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive or FINI program, are showing that smart public-private partnerships can help low-income families eat more healthy food while supporting American farmers.

We applaud Senators Stabenow and Roberts for their vision and leadership. Yesterday’s overwhelming 86 – 11 vote shows that bipartisan solutions are possible, offering a template for upcoming conference committee deliberations. Today we are one step closer to a farm bill that works for our families and farmers.”
