Fair Food Network is a national nonprofit and investor working to grow community health, wealth, and resilience through food. We strengthen local food economies through nutrition incentives, impact investing, and policy advocacy.

Local food systems connect growers, businesses, and families in ways that strengthen communities from the ground up. When food is grown, sold, and eaten locally, the benefits stay local, too.
Strong local food systems improve access to healthy food, create jobs and business opportunities, strengthen regional supply chains, and help communities better respond to economic and environmental challenges.
This isn’t just about food preference—it’s about building an economy that works for more people.

Right now, much of our food and agriculture system is designed for scale and efficiency, not for community impact. We’re working to change that by making local food more available, more affordable, and more connected to the people it serves. By doing so, we’re also keeping food dollars circulating in our local communities, strengthening our local economies.

Double Up Food Bucks is a nutrition incentive program that helps families match their SNAP purchases of fruits and vegetables while supporting local farmers and food retailers involved in the program. Fair Food Network started Double Up in Michigan in 2009, inspiring similar efforts across the country.

Fair Food Network serves as the administrative manager of the Michigan Good Food Fund, helping coordinate a statewide network of lenders, business support organizations, and technical experts dedicated to supporting food and farm entrepreneurs across Michigan.

Through the Michigan Good Food Fund, we help connect businesses with flexible financing, wrap-around business assistance, and trusted partners who understand the unique opportunities and challenges of the local food economy. We work to expand access to capital and strengthen businesses that contribute to healthier communities and resilient local food systems.
