Farmers Markets
Leadership of the Double Up Oklahoma (DUO) program was taken up by Hunger Free Oklahoma in early 2019. With support from state- and county-level philanthropic contributions in 2020, we have expanded DUO to serve 16 farmers markets – up from 10 – and supported the ongoing growth of a mobile market. The DUO program reaches 15 counties with 229,000 SNAP participants in a state with a high household poverty and food insecurity rates, and aims to address Oklahoma’s high rates of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Participating markets include sites in Tulsa, Moore, Mustang, Norman, Lawton, Claremore, Sapulpa, Muskogee, Bartlesville, Tahlequah, McAlester, Duncan, Okmulgee, Miami, Nowata, and Frederick. Of our 17 DUO markets, seven are located in rural counties within the Cherokee and Creek tribal nations, which face especially high rates of poverty and food insecurity.
