Farmers Markets & Grocery Stores

Double Up Food Bucks began in six Iowa farmers markets in 2016 and is now active at 37 sites including farmers markets, farm stands, mobile markets and grocery stores. To date, the program has resulted in nearly $525,000 worth of fresh fruits and vegetables has purchased by Double Up Food Bucks customers. From recent program evaluation, 94 percent of SNAP shoppers reported eating more fruits and vegetables and 74 percent of farmers reported making more money because of Double Up. In 2018, the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative and local partners received a three-year FINI award for $480,044 to support the growth of the Double Up Food Bucks program in the retail setting.
