FINI Grant Program: 2015 Results
The 2014 Farm Bill created a new competitive grant program to test the idea that providing incentives to SNAP program participants to buy fruits and vegetables could increase the consumption of produce and improve dietary health. The first Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive grants were made in the Spring 2015 supporting produce incentive programs in 27 states at 900+ farmers markets, 50+ grocery stores, and 70+ non-traditional farmer-to-consumer food retailers serving rural and urban communities across the country. This report summarizes year one results of FINI-funded medium and large size projects. Highlights include more than $8 million in fruit and vegetable purchases stimulated from the FINI-funded projects, helping thousands of low-income SNAP households and increasing sales for more than 1,000 farmers.
