Double Up Food Bucks Earns Overwhelming 91% Support from Likely Michigan Voters in New Poll

Poll conducted by EPIC-MRA finds respondents in favor of program across every region

DETROIT—(July 8, 2025)—At a time of high political polarization, the Double Up Food Bucks program continues to receive overwhelming, bipartisan support from Michiganders, with a recent statewide poll finding 91 percent of respondents in favor of the essential community resource that helps Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients purchase more fresh fruits and vegetables.

The poll of 600 active and likely voters in the November 2026 election was conducted by EPIC-MRA from June 20-25, 2025. Seventy-eight percent of respondents reported strong support of the program, while an additional 13 percent said they somewhat supported it.

“The overwhelming support for Double Up Food Bucks among Michigan voters demonstrates that this program transcends party lines and political divisions,” said Kate Krauss, CEO of Fair Food Network, the national nonprofit behind the Double Up program. “When 91 percent of likely voters support a program, it’s clear that Michiganders recognize the common-sense value of an initiative that delivers a triple impact of real results for families, farmers, and communities alike.”

The poll had a sample error of four percentage points and 80 percent of respondents were reached by cell phone. The program received 96 percent support from voters with liberal political views, 91 percent support from those with moderate views, and 89 percent from those with conservative views.

Double Up received strong support from at least 71 percent of respondents in every region of the state, including 87 percent strong support in Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, and 83 percent strong support in Metro Detroit (Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties).

Double Up provides Michigan households using SNAP a dollar-for-dollar match, up to $20 a day, on purchases of fresh fruits and vegetables at more than 230 participating grocery stores and farmers markets across the state. The program received a $5 million investment from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) in the 2024-25 state budget.

“This poll should give our legislators additional confidence that investing in this program is both good policy and good politics,” Krauss said. “Michiganders want practical solutions that strengthen families and communities, and Double Up Food Bucks delivers exactly that. This level of support creates a mandate for continued investment in a program that truly works for Michigan.”

The poll results were announced just as Fair Food Network is set to kick off its Double Up Food Bucks Awareness Month events across Michigan. Events taking place this July feature raffles, giveaways, and opportunities to sign up for the program. Find an event at the following locations:
