Double Up Food Bucks sweepstakes encourages Bridge Card users in Detroit to eat healthier

ANN ARBOR, Mich.—The Detroit Lions are teaming up with Fair Food Network to bring more fresh produce to Detroit Bridge Card users—and a chance to win tickets to the Lions’ Thanksgiving Day game against the Green Bay Packers.

The sweepstakes is part of the new Double Up Food Bucks grocery store initiative at three full-service grocery stores in Detroit: Metro Foodland (18551 Grand River Ave.), Mike’s Fresh Market (14383 Gratiot Ave.) and Honey Bee Market (2443 Bagley Ave.).

Here’s how it works: Anyone who spends at least $10 on produce items using a Michigan Bridge Card will get a Double Up Food Bucks Reward Card good for another $10 of Michigan-grown produce. When a customer redeems the Reward Card for more produce she or he will also receive a form to enter the Double Up Food Bucks sweepstakes.

The grand prize winner will receive a Lions VIP package that includes four club seats for the Nov. 28, 2013 game against the Green Bay Packers, four pre-game sideline passes, a parking pass, and the opportunity to enjoy a VIP brunch in the Hall of Legends, plus food vouchers for concessions.

The 2nd place prize winner will receive a football signed by Lions safety Glover Quin, and the 3rd place prize winner will receive a Nike Lions Legend Icon T-shirt.

“The Lions are team players in every sense,” said Oran Hesterman, president and CEO of Fair Food Network. “Their commitment to vulnerable families shows how much they care about our community—both on and off the field.”

“Partnering with organizations that improve access to fresh fruits and vegetables is a key component of our Living for the City initiative,” said Detroit Lions President Tom Lewand. “Fair Food Network’s Double Up Food Bucks program is a great incentive that helps educate and provide healthy food options for SNAP-eligible Michigan residents.”

The sweepstakes is part of the Lions “Living for the City” initiative, which supports organizations that pursue integrated approaches to physical fitness, healthy eating, housing, land use and environmental planning, public transportation, community infrastructure, and aligned workforce opportunities.

Full prize rules, as well as more information on “Living for the City,” are available at www.detroitlions.com/community.

Double Up Food Bucks began in 2009, doubling the value of Bridge Card benefits at farmers’ markets. It is now available at 95 farmers’ markets across Michigan.
