Charles Walker

Retail Specialist
Double Up Food Bucks

Charles manages the growing portfolio of grocery stores that participate in Michigan’s statewide healthy food incentive program, Double Up Food Bucks, which helps low-income consumers bring home more healthy food while supporting Michigan farmers. Participating stores range from small independents to national retail chains. He also provides business assistance to retail enterprises through the Michigan Good Food Fund.

He brings more than 25 years’ experience in retail including owning his own grocery store on Detroit’s East side and launching one of the first major chain grocery stores to return to the city. He was a founding board member of the Detroit Food Policy Council and also sits on the board of the East Side Community Network.

Charles is a graduate of Tuskegee University with a degree in business administration. A Detroiter born and raised, Charles still calls the East Side of the city home. When he’s not out in the neighborhood volunteering, you can find him playing golf.
