Program Ambassador
Double Up Food Bucks

As a Program Ambassador, Alana provides community education about Double Up Food Bucks at participating grocery stores and farmers markets in Detroit. She explains how the program works to community members and shoppers, helping them to better understand how Double Up can help stretch their SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or food stamps) food dollars to buy more fresh fruits and vegetables. She increases program awareness and provides valuable guidance to new customers navigating the program.

Hailing from the East Side of Detroit, Alana is a proud graduate of Cass Technical High School and Xavier University of Louisiana (H.B.C.U. Proud!). Alana has previously worked for the Safe Routes to Health Program through AmeriCorps and The Michigan Fitness Foundation where helped create a newsletter for community members on health and wellness topics such as accessible workouts for Seniors and more. Alana is a food lover on a mission to create change one bite at a time and is passionate about making healthy choices accessible for all.

A self-proclaimed “Self-Care Queen”, Alana enjoys all things self-care including Yoga, Skin Care, and Journaling. In her free time, one of her favorite activities is sitting on Belle Isle and reading a good book.
