The Double Up Food Bucks program in Michigan is expanding thanks to new federal funding. U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow says the program is receiving over $5 million, which will be matched by private funds for a total investment of $10.4 million. The program both helps people on food assistance from the state and local farmers. It matches the food assistance money spent on fresh produce at farmers markets and grocery stores to help low-income people have access to better and fresh food. Stabenow says the money is coming from the USDA'S Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive grant program. The Benton Harbor Fruit Market is among the places in this area taking part in Double Up Food Bucks.
