About The Event
Affordability Fixes is a free virtual webinar series from Fair Food Network exploring practical, community-driven solutions to one of today’s biggest challenges: making food more affordable. As families across the country feel the strain of rising grocery costs, we’ll spotlight innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers, and practitioners who are finding new ways to make healthy, local food more accessible while strengthening local economies. Through real-world examples and honest conversations, we’ll share ideas that communities can learn from and adapt to build a more affordable, resilient food system.

Errol Schweizer
Author of The Checkout Grocery Update and host of The Checkout Podcast,
Errol Schweizer is the publisher of The Checkout Grocery Update. He was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, and has over 30 years of experience in the food industry, from stock clerk to board member, including 14 years at Whole Foods, where he was the vice president of Grocery, prior to the Amazon acquisition. His writing is focused on pricing, political economy, product trends and labor struggles in the grocery industry. He is currently a panel member of IPES-Food.

Meta Jo Riseling
Store manager of Walsh Community Grocery Store in Colorado
Meta Jo Riseling is the store manager of Walsh Community Grocery, a community-owned cooperative serving roughly 500 residents in Walsh, Colorado. She joined the store in 2012 and advanced to management in 2017 after directing the local school lunchroom. Riseling oversees daily operations, develops relationships with Colorado farmers, supports area school districts, and creates jobs for local teenagers. Under her leadership, the store delivers groceries and medications to isolated residents and participates in Double Up Food Bucks, expanding access to fresh produce for SNAP customers. A Rural Grocer of the Year finalist, she has made the store a community hub.
