Cara is deeply committed to driving investment in programs that affect change. As Director of Development, she works with the development team to foster relationships with foundations, government, corporations, and individuals who want to strengthen community food systems.
Cara brings deep experience in food systems and land use work. Most recently, Cara served as executive director of The Land Connection, where she connected small and mid-size farmers with underserved families including through farmers markets, healthy food incentive programs, and other efforts. Cara also brings professional experience in climate change policy and research.
With roots in Santa Barbara, California, Cara developed a love for good food, watercolor painting, woodworking, and how things grow—but it took moving to the magic of Midwestern soil for her to become an avid gardener. Cara has a degree in biology from University of California at Santa Barbara and a master’s degree in environmental science and policy from Columbia University.
