Alyssa Rogers

Program Ambassador
Double Up Food Bucks

As a Program Ambassador, Alyssa provides community education about Double Up Food Bucks at participating grocery stores and farmers markets in Southeast Michigan. She explains how the program works to community members and shoppers, helping them to better understand how Double Up can help stretch their SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or food stamps) food dollars to buy more fresh fruits and vegetables. She increases program awareness and provides valuable guidance to new customers navigating the program.

Alyssa is a Med-Direct Scholar at Wayne State University, earning her bachelor’s in biology and art in May 2022. In July of 2022, she will be matriculating into the Wayne State School of Medicine with career aspirations of becoming an ER physician. Outside of her science-based education, Alyssa is passionate about food security as the foundation of lifetime good health. She works at Eastern Market as Food Access Crew Lead, guiding their distribution of alternative food currencies, and founded the Detroit Community Fridge, a mutual aid project that serves as a 24-hour free pantry across multiple locations in Detroit.
