California Climate and Agriculture Network
California Climate and Agriculture Network (CalCAN) is a coalition of organic and sustainable farming advocacy organizations that advances policy solutions to support California agriculture in the face of climate change. We believe that it is imperative that agriculture play a constructive role in responding to climate change in order to ensure its own long-term viability, to reduce its carbon footprint, and to enhance its potential to be one of the only available sinks for carbon. . We maintain that climate change offers the most powerful opportunity in decades to accelerate a widespread shift to sustainable agriculture practices.
CalCAN puts an emphasis on cultivating farmer leadership, understanding that they can be powerful spokespeople on this issue. We also convene dialogue between researchers, farmers, farm advisors, non-profit representatives, and policymakers. We serve as a bridge between advocates of agriculture and the environment, seeking solutions that benefit both.
